Events at the Wild Koala Breeding Visitor Centre - Guulabaa - Place of Koala

  • National Koala Conference | 20-22 July 2026

Since the last national conference in 2023, our knowledge of koalas and their habitats have deepened.

Advances in monitoring technology, progress in disease management, and bold initiatives in breeding and translocation are reshaping koala conservation. Combined with tireless efforts in rehabilitation and grassroots action, this momentum sets the stage for the 2026 National Koala Conference.

The conference will bring together researchers, wildlife carers and practitioners, and policy makers to share these developments. And for the first time ever, the National Koala Conference will be live streamed around the world!

The challenges for koalas persist – so what’s next?

  • Guula Gallery Exhibition | Cheyne Flanagan

Cheyne Flanagan OAM is a retired wildlife biologist who was the Clinical Director of the Port Macquarie Koala Hospital for 22 years.

Another love has always been art - dabbling in various mediums such as watercolours, but over the last few years Cheyne has concentrated on working mainly using coloured pencils.

Creating art in coloured pencils gives me the freedom to apply many layers of deep rich colour and finely observed details. As a scientist this attention to detail in ingrained into my training. Coloured pencils allows expression of the love of all animals and particularly our wonderful native wildlife. This marvellous medium is very portable and mess free which is very useful when travelling throughout remote areas of Australia.”
