Port Macquarie Koala Hospital Redevelopment Update - September 2025

Port Macquarie Koala Hospital Redevelopment Update - September 2025
Work is well underway on the exciting redevelopment of the Port Macquarie Koala Hospital! Here’s what’s been happening on site:
  • Demolition and site preparation complete – clearing the way for new facilities.
  • Foundations and early works underway – getting ready to pour the first slabs for the new hospital, shop, and museum.
  • Environmental approval – coordination with National Parks for the environmental approvals before works can start on the connections to Macquarie Nature Reserve
  • Safe start – zero workplace incidents reported.
  • On schedule – despite a few rainy days, the project remains on track for completion in mid 2026.
The new Port Macquarie Koala Hospital will feature improved hospital wards, expanded rehabilitation yards, a new education and retail space, and upgraded spaces for volunteers and staff.

This redevelopment marks a huge step forward in caring for sick and injured koalas, and in welcoming our community and visitors to learn more about conservation.

Lastly, we wish to advise that Roger Ackland has left Koala Conservation Australia and Matt Whatman has been appointed as the new Project Manager. We’ll keep sharing monthly updates as progress continues. Thank you for your ongoing support—together we’re building a world-class koala hospital for future generations. 💚
