Meet Benny, a young male koala who came to our permanent care in September 2023. He's estimated to be around 4 years old. He was rescued from Southwest Sydney in July 2023, looking a bit down and showing signs of head trauma, possibly from a vehicle accident. Luckily, he pulled through, but he lost his vision and is now blind. Because of this, he won't be able to survive in the wild, so he's moved permanently to our Hospital.
But don't worry, Benny is doing great health-wise, despite being blind. He's young and still has a lot of growing to do. Right now, he weighs 6 kg, and we think he'll reach an adult weight of 8 or 9 kg. That’s a big, healthy weight! Benny is also very special because he comes from the Campbelltown population, one of the last wild koala populations completely free of Chlamydia.
