Construction of the new Port Macquarie Koala Hospital continues to progress well, with strong momentum across building, landscaping and exhibit areas. The project remains on track for completion in 2026, with close coordination between Koala Conservation Australia, AW Edwards, National Parks and the NSW Government.
Over the past period, key progress has included:
- Continued advancement of rehabilitation yards, including steel framing, sheeting and mesh installation nearing completion
- Construction of koala habitat elements, including gunyah shelters, paths and service bollard
- Completion of the raised walkway balustrade and anti-climb screening
- Progression of fencing works, with exhibit fence installation underway, followed by boundary fencing soon
- Completion of concrete and electrical works to the main entry courtyard
Ongoing progress on the shop and museum fitout - Continued development of landscaping works, with planting and exhibit furnishing details to be finalised shortly
More broadly, the project has seen significant progress across services, finishes and external works, with many building areas now nearing completion and commissioning activities beginning. Approvals and certification processes are also well advanced, supporting the pathway toward opening.
Looking ahead, works will focus on:
- Final landscaping, planting and exhibit installation
- Completion of fencing and remaining habitat structures
- Final internal finishes, fitout and commissioning activities
- Preparation for inspections, approvals and opening
Koala Conservation Australia and the project team thank neighbours and the local community for their continued patience and support as construction progresses on this important koala care, conservation and education facility.
